Our Churchyards
A churchyard is much more than a garden around a church. It is a burial ground, but also a place of quiet reflection and recreation, a habitat for rare plant and animal species, and the setting of the church building.
Each of our six churches is set in a well-cared for churchyard. We take seriously the good management of a churchyard, taking into account a range of issues, from the burial rights of parishioners to the wildlife management of the churchyard.
Please contact us if you have any questions about our churchyards, or wish to make an application to install, repair or replace a memorial stone.
Please also see the ChurchCare website for guidance notes on Burials, Memorials and Wildlife in churchyards.
Family History Research in our Churches
We welcome your enquiries regarding your Family History Research and will conduct searches on our registers and in our churchyard records at your request.
Please contact us with your enquiry – the fullest amount of information you can provide will help to speed our search. You will be charged for this service – please see the Church of England Parochial Fees page for up to date charges.
Our churches only hold a limited number of registers: usually those which are still in current use. We will advise you of the earliest dates of our historic church record books and should your interest fall before these dates then you should refer in the first instance to The Somerset Archives and Local Studies Service.
